Since 9/11/01 when there was a sudden influx of National congruity and patriotism... I’ve felt it all slowly subsiding. I’m not talking about it’s political popularity (was it ever popular to go to war?) but there is less and less about our young men and women in uniform over in Iraq and Afghanistan on the news at night. Fewer and fewer stories in the paper. Fewer and fewer folks are flying flags anymore. As their flags get old and tattered they just let ‘em fade away instead of replacing them.

I say all this as my second son Andy, prepares to depart tomorrow for Iraq. Erik, my eldest was there during the first year of the war when the Army and Marines were tearing up through the country and the Iraqi Army seemed to be jumping the hell out of the way! I’ve been more worried about the folks over there as of the past few years. Seems you don’t know who you can trust, who’s going to set-up and IED, who’s going to provide good intel, etc. So I’m worried about my son and hope and pray he’ll come home as safe and sound as his brother did.

Please don’t let those in uniform go by the wayside. Keep ‘em all in your hearts and prayers, through the holiday season and all year ‘round.
