Does your 340 and a forged or cast crank?

340 and 360 cast crank engines are externally balanced. 1972+ automatic tranny 340's had cast cranks. 360s have all had cast cranks. If memory serves me right later 1960's 318's had forged cranks. 318 cast cranks are internally balanced. They came around in 1970 or so if my memory is right. The reason why a 340 cast crank is external balance and the 318 cast crank is internal balanced is because the 318 rod and pistons are lighter then the 340.

Norm is right the 340 is a little screamer of an engine and likes high RPMS.
