I agree, but there is one good thing in that scenario. Every country of any consequence in the world is several other country's vendor, customer, and/or banker. Nobody is really self-sufficient, which means the opportunities for successful war are limited. China can't afford to attack us militarily. They'd not only lose their biggest customer, but they'd also lose all the money they had invested in US government bonds, since I assume that if they attacked us, we'd quit repaying them. It used to be only Switzerland that had this kind of immunity to attack, but now it's like everybody in the world has everybody else by the short-n-curlies. It's a weird kind of peace, but it might work for a while.
