Some starters can be rebuilt by the normal guy. Those who can really help will want to know what kind of vehicle, what year, and what engine. Sounds to me like the return spring on the bendix gear is shot, or whatever causes it to activate is shot. This from a carpenter trying to learn how to be a mechanic and welder. JH
