Vacuum/fuel pumps

I'd like to get the wipers working well on my M43. I put in two NOS French Trico wiper motors, which although aren't a perfect fit, are authentic enough for my taste. The problem, of course, is that except at very high vacuum they barely work. According to the TM, all M37s had the combination vacuum pump and fuel pump. Mine has just a regular fuel pump, so the original must have been removed at some point. I really don't want to put in electric wiper motors because I want this truck to be fairly authentic. I looked at electric-powered vacuum pumps but they're insanely expensive ($300+) and seem to be made mainly to run brake boosters on hot rods. I thought about cobbling in a vacuum tank, but there's no room for anything of any size, it would look stupid, and I doubt it would hold enough vacuum since I climb long grades where the throttle is wide open for miles.

My question is this: If I get one of the original vacuum/fuel pump combos, which are $100, rebuilt, will this do the job? Will the wipers run with enthusiasm regardless of engine speed and manifold vacuum? I don't want to waste the money on it if it still won't work well.
