It's pretty stupid, but since mighty Iowa is the first primary, the idiot politicians fall all over themselves backing ethanol.
Ethanol takes more energy to produce than it makes.....It provides 35% less BTU or power per gallon.
Corn based fuel raises the cost of dairy and beef products because it's used as the primary cattle feed. There have been tortilla riots in South America over the skyrocketing price of corn. Sweeteners from corn syrup are raising the price of just about every drink and product that uses sugar substitutes.
There is a place for bio and methanol, just not from food by-products.
If every vehicle was diesel powered, we would immediately eliminate the need to import oil from the middle east. And we would dramatically lower our CO2 output (if you believe in THAT nonsense....= )
