I have been told that the 1965 1/2 and up 8 foot bed from a D or W series conventional cab truck has the wheel well in the wrong place for a WM300 style Power Wagon.

The bedsides are the same length, but the wheel well is 2" further back, so the front of the bed needs to be cut off two inches to make everything align with the axle and cab.

Of course the only way to cut off that front 2" of the bed would be to remove the stake pockets, cut off the extra material, and then replace the stake pockets.

Then the rear of the bed is 2" short, and making that longer would be a big hassle.

I doubt most folks would notice the missing 2" if done right, but it does require a lot of work to get there.

Not to mention that the lower front edge of the bedsides need to be cut shorter to clear the running boards.

The better option to get a correct looking bed is to buy a 9 foot 1956-74 bed, and cut both ends of the bed down, that way the bed could be made exactly right. The only problem with that is the 9' 1956-74 bedsides are almost more rare then a 1956-68 WM300 style PW bed. Plus it is a lot more work!
