The knobs and switches changed several times over the years, and the method of removal is different for all of them.

The 1948-49 choke cable has a nut behind the dash, the headlight and panel light switch knob are held on by a spring inside the knob. Find the slot in the knob, and push on the little metal tab inside with a tiny screwdriver, or a small awl. Once the spring is released the knob just pulls off (you have to hold the spring in place with the screwdriver while you remove the knob). Then the bezel comes off by twisting like a normal nut.

In between 1946 and 1968 there are at least 5 styles of switch, and they all come apart in different ways.
