Drilled a hole in my fuel sending unit today.

I guess I partially plugged the stock pick up when I sealed the tank. So it ran tearible (made me cry) today, and actually stalled. I had to drive it on the starter motor to get it out of traffic. When I tried to siphon gas through it, well a hamster pees faster. So, I pulled the sending unit, drilled a hole through it, soldered in a piece of 5/16 steel line, and wah-la, runs fine now. I made the line long enough to run almost to the old location, across the top of the tank. So now it is similar to modern trucks, with a pick up that is serviceable. I may even put a sock filter on the end of it, if I can find one that fits.

Of course, that only fixed half of my problem. My brand new fuel lines that I had put in the chassis two years ago, and never had fuel in them 'til this week, were also plugged. I dunno with what, black, pretty hard, bug casings of some kind? Blew that out, siphoned five gallons of gas through the whole system, poured the gas back in the tank through a paint strainer. Now it flows like a cow in the vicinity of a flat rock.

Then I put in too small of a jet, so it's back to bucking and surging again. Reaming the jet .005" at a time 'til the bucking stopped, makes it run like the proverbial ape with the posterior racing stripes. Anybody want to race?

Now, to attack the second bed side. Lots of small dents, 6 rust holes, old welds to grind off. It's in better shape then the first side. Maybe I'll be painting them this week?

Oh, and I had a brainstorm for the bed washers. Those 3" diameter ones? I'm using a recessed ring instead. So I'll have six tie down rings inlaid flush into the oak floor. Then I can tie down my groceries next time I stop at the liquor store...
