In my more paranoid moments, I think that the oil companies have suddenly jumped on the global warming bandwagon because it finally occurred to them that if they can get the public to pay them NOT to pump oil (which some of them are running low on anyway), it'll be a lot easier business plan than actually going to the trouble of pumping, refining, and selling the stuff. I don't quite believe that, but it's always mighty easy money when you can get the government to pay you NOT to do something that you'd rather not do anyway, be it growing wheat, cutting down trees, or pumping oil.
