We brought Wendel back home today after installing the Renued gas tank. Vacuum test indicated 18" of vacuum with some needle fluctuation. A friend came over and we conducted a compression test. The highest cylinder read 125psi. The lowest read 115psi. Leak down test revealed some blowby and valve leakage in most cylinders. We adjusted the valves cold at .012 intake and .016 exhaust and gapped the spark plugs. Replaced the bad PC valve. Located the source of an ignition problem (loose wire from ignition to fuze block).

Filled the gas tank and took the truck out for a test drive of about 10 miles on winding, hilly roads. Good news is the brakes absolutely stop the truck on a dime with the rebuilt booster. Bad news is a loud growling and clanking noise in third gear. Drained the gear oil from the transmission. It had a fair amount of water and bronze filings, probably from the reverse idler gear.

Plans for tomorrow include filling the transmission and transfer case with gear oil and Lucas HD oil stabilizer, putting Marvel Mystery Oil in the tank and Bars-Leak in the engine, and putting the flatbed on the truck. The truck will be ready, but I'm worried about the tranny on the WV hills!
