If you just want to fire it up and see if it runs, it doesn't matter what the polarity is, and it doesn't even matter very much what the voltage is. I'd stick a 12 volt battery in it, just to make sure the starter has plenty of spin (12 volts won't hurt a 6 volt starter), hook the battery straight to the coil (no need for a ballast resistor just to see if it runs), and give it a try. As long as there's nothing electronic attached (radio, electronic ignition system, etc) and no generator/alternator, the polarity and voltage don't matter. Somebody might say you'll burn up a 6 volt coil if you run it at 12 volts without a ballast resistor, and they're probably right if you drive it all day like that, but you just want to see how the engine runs. The starter, of course, spins the right way regardless of the polarity of the current to it. Make sure the points are clean. It seems like old Dodges in particular are prone to the points getting tarnished and not starting after they've sat a while.
