I agree with you on shipping. I try to get the exact mount as well using USPS online calculator and it is normally real accurate. People don't realize that Parcel Post on things less than 3 pounds of weight is virtually NO different in cost than Priority Mail. I always use delivery confirmation as well, as it protects both the seller and buyer. Buyer has something to show it was sent and shows it was delivered as well.
I had people try to say it wasn't sent and this stops them from trying to pull a fast one. Insurance is optional so if they opt out and it's lost or broken, it was THEIR choice to opt out.
Also, it always amazes me the people who wait a week or more to send payment and want their item shipped ASAP wondering where it is!
You get people wanting you to send car parts as media mail? That a good one too! Kevin
