If you go to GoDaddy.com, you can check (for free) if a domain name is available. You can also register a domain name there for a very low fee, no more than $10/year for doc com, less for some others like dot net etc. You can also buy space there to host the web site if you wish.
You can then use a domain you registered to direct to another site....in my case I redirect to my dot Mac account. I can put up web sites there for free, but the URLs are complicated. I have a Mustang for sale and used this method...to see how it works, enter tcmustang.com
