I know that in 1969 Dodge moved the W100s to a 8 3/4 rear from a Dana 60, but a lot of guy street race and drag cars with pretty powerful motors with the stock 8 3/4 rears.
If this guy is blowing U joints maybe he should check them more often, or see if he has some other problem (spring wear causing bad driveline angles, etc).
I am not sure that even a 1969-71 W100 is that much weaker then a W200, even though I prefer the Dana 60 rear.
