Normally you don't have to remove the jamb, your friend should notice that there is no jamb on the latch side, but he will have to remove the hanger/roller from that side first and let that side swing out to clear the pocket side.
Some have double rollers so that the door does not come off of the track, on those you need a flat wrench (1/8") to remove the locking nut, or the track will actually have a "slot" for removal of the rollers, about 6-8" from the latch side jamb. A flashlight will reveal what type he has and save frustration and extra work.
