I am sorry to hear about your situation. I would have taken the same action that you did in the same circumstances.
The Federal Government, however, was not established to care for your medical needs.
In an ideal world, your friends would help you out (not to bring up Religion again, but so should your Church)- but that isn't always possible. I am not against the government helping you out, but it SHOULD be your local community helping you out through their taxes, or at the highest level your state. Centralizing the distribution of money sounds like a good idea, but leads to corruption and abuse - with no accountability. The distribution needs to take place where there is accountability of those in control and also a clearer understanding of the needs.
That being said, at this point your only option is the Federal Government - and I would probably rely on them too, if I was in your situation. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't work to fix the system.
Obligatory Power Wagon Content: Spent 2 hours last Saturday getting a stripped (lH)lug nut off of the W200. Last time it was inspected somebody spun the edges off of the nut.
