The Leaning Tower of Diesel Power
Rain put a delay in harvest of corn so we took off to drive the Frito Lay van home.
They painted over the giant Dorito ad on the side, oh well.
My van fired up and the tires were up so off I went at 45 to 60mph on the Interstate. Less than 10 miles later-kaboom-blew a rear tire.
The noise was terrible even though I had my earplugs in. The tire had tore loose a gravel shield that was now hammering between the tire and the fenderwell.
Pulled off to look and then to the exit that was close. Got the flopping shield off and had no 8-19.5 spare so I drove slowly to find a tire shop. Only 10 miles on a highway. The shop did not have one and we looked at the options and decided to leave it on the rim and drive home at 45mph.
150 more miles at 45mph and I was home. The Cummins runs great and the van weighs 7100 pounds on the scale with 3/8 tank of fuel.
Wish I bought more of them, maybe next time.
