I've read exactly opposite of this. Many newer oils have been having less and less zinc in them. The zinc content of the oil is extremely helpful in certain areas, one of which is the flat tappet/cam lobe interface.

New engines are roller tappet so they aren't affected and thus these low/zero zinc oils aren't a problem for these parts in the new engines.

Don't take this as gospel, just another angle to perhaps go find out more information on.
