The way I look at it, if you are rebuilding everything else, and looking to get as nice a driving truck as you can, then a rebuild is worth it.

If you are just trying to get the truck back on the road, then a little bit of wear is no problem, and an adjustment is the way to go.

All I know is that multiple people have told me they rebuilt their whole steering system, only to still have problems. After they rebuilt the steering box the truck drove great, and was easier to steer at low speeds.

Only John can decide if his truck is worn enough to need a rebuild, and it might not. As for the three turns, was that the first 3 turns, or 3 turns on top of 12 made by the original owner?

Given the rest of the drivetrain needed a rebuild, I would wonder if the steering box might as well, that is all I was trying to say. You have a good point about factory designed adjustments.

Eric
