The stock Dodge by-pass filter system is a good oil filtering system. Over the years, there were many different sizes; I have 3 or 4 different ones in my parts collection.

You could go to a cartridge with a finer filter, tho I suspect the cost would be higher and I don;t see the benefit offhand.

You can go to the full flow filter setup on certain blocks (notably the 251 long block) where an aluminum casting is bolted to the boss on the block, a plug inserted in the oil passage in the block. These are relatively rare. I put one on my 251 to act as an 'oil cooler' in our hot climate.

As to a Chevy spin-on filter engine staying cleaner, I'm a skeptic. If both engines are in the same condition mechanically, and clean to start (with the same oil and driving habits) you would not be able to see a difference.
