Oil filter upgrades

Would it be a good idea to replace the "small" oil filter canister with one twice as big and replace the skinny oil tubes with thicker steel braded hoses? Or would it be better to adapt a spin on oil filter? A have a 56 chevy pick up that has a huge oil canister compared to the one on my 47 Dodge. Oil stays cleaner longer too.
