Fuel Pump Not Working

Fuel pump on my M37 has stopped working. Have run a temporary line directly from gas tank to pump - still does not work. Also, ran temporary line to a 5-gal. can - still not working. Took pump apart - looked OK. Feels like it has good action. Have vacuum lines disconnected on bottom of pump -would that cause it to not work?
