I will be coming to the restoration/rebuilding of my drive line components in the spring. My question is how are guys approaching this task?

Do most tear down to the empty case and rebuild with all new parts. Or all new bearings and any other wear items, with the major gears and such inspected for damage and then reused?

I have torn the 230 engine down and am having it inspected by the machinist now. Those of you who rebuilt you own 230, assuming no catastrophic damage to the engine, did you reuse the pistons, cam, oil pump, etc?

My thinking is to replace the wear items and reuse as much of the original items as possible. But, since this will be my 1st 230 I've rebuilt, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Can anyone in the MD/DC/VA/WVA areas recommend a flathead guru? Or a guru with a flathead?

thanks.
