I mounted 11.00 x 16 surplus Michelin XL tires on the truck and found one of them had a 7.62 X 39mm round stuck in one of the lugs.
After I extracted the slightly deformed slug, I found there was only a little brusing of the inside carcus... it hadn't penitrated all the way. So I mounted the tire up as a spare and stuck the bullet back in for show-and-tell.
This would be 1996 or 97, so maybe the tire was on a LAV durring the first gulf war... like you say, if only it could talk.
