Speaking about hubs and highway driving:
Depending upon the truck and model, selectable hubs can save from nothing, to a bit of fuel, but the biggest reason is just preventing wear and tear on the front end drive train components AND diminishing front tire wear.
The selectable hubs however are very useful, whether you have a selectable locker or not. They are for minimizing rotating parts on the highway. They really don't have connection to lockers, or open diffs. You can't run a selectable locker, in the front, where the hubs are, locked on pavement, you wouldn't be able to steer very easily, so that point is moot.
Selectable hubs are strictly for eliminating rotating parts on the highway and have no bearing on the type of differential you have.
One advantage they do have is that I can put the truck in low range 2WD by unlocking the front hubs.
