Jim, as you've read, it's called a safety switch for good reason. If you keep your head about you, go ahead and bypass it. If you're careless, someone is going to get hurt.
The incidents cited here are all user error, and they have no one to blame but themselves.
So long story short, just fix it properly. Keep the info on how to bypass it for emergency situations only.
