I'm surprised that VPW is out of handles, knowing how many of the things you can get through.
I'm sure I have a spare Norwegian reproduction of the 909469 tailgate control mechanism, which you can have if you need it. Shouldn't be too expensive, even allowing for the psotage from here in Scotland.
If you get this mechanism and a 1/4" square drive handle the operating rods are just bent metal bars and shouldn't pose a problem. How did 'they' get the old stuff out the tailgate without wrecking it, or have you re-skinned it ?
