I was repowering my m-37 and took lots of measurements to put in an automatic but could not do it unless I moved the x-fer case back and maybe move the radiator forward. I had wanted an automatic overdrive trans with a mated x-case but would have had to use a wc-3/4 ton centered rearend. Your centered rearend would allow a mated unit, losing one drive shaft, and maybe a winch pto if your truck has one. Is there a suitable auto that bolts to a 230? I have never seen one. It sounds like a total repower which could be good depending on your personal preferences. Lots of luck.
