fuel sender / gauge / voltage reducer nightmare

i am having a problem with the gauge setup on my command car
-the truck is 12 volts
- the gauge is 6 volts

what sender should i use-- what is the rating required??
what voltage reducer should i use??? where can i get one
how do i test my gauge?? how do i determine its rating

any help is appreciated, as i am losing my mind.
