GET A WRITTEN CONTRACT! Most truck brokers are not an honest lot. They will lowball you a figure and then cheat some owner-operator who is stranded somewhere to take the load for a ridiculous price. On a thousand dollar load it is not uncommon to see the broker make between 200-250 dollars. Use a company that owns the trucks and can honestly quote a fair rate as well as deliver when they say. Otherwise you have a high probability of being taken. BEEN THERE DONE THAT. BUYER BEWARE!
