Gears are gears.
You may want to change out your gears to 4.88, 5.83 will give you a top speed of about 45.
I've been clocked at doing over 60 up hill with 4.89 gears.
You can also balance a L6, bench flow(opening up ports) etc...
I think with the longer stroke with the L6 you will have better lower end torque than the V8.
