You did not say how you bled your brakes. If you did it the old fashioned way (Like I do) by having someone pump the brake pedal for you, I have a suggestion.
I always adjust my brake shoes out tight against the drums before I bleed the lines. Then when you pump the pedal none of the pedal stroke is used to move the shoes, all of the stroke is used to push out the air.
Of course if you use a pressure bleeder or vacuum bleeder this probably doesn't matter.
In my experience most problems like you describe are caused by not getting rid of all the air in the lines.
