Today, I rebuild both drag links on my M37. I found a terrible surprise just waiting to bite me really bad.

Reference: Top Drag Link from the Steering Box to Idler Arm.

Some total idiot had assembled the Idler end of the Drag Link wrong. He had put the 2 concave seats that retain the ball on the idler arm backwards. Both seats were reversed with the concave sides against the spring and the plug. The Flat sides were against the Ball. This could have been deadly if it was not found and corrected.

Probably the same idiot that put his version of power steering on the truck and had to cut the Pitman Arm and re-weld, along with sistering some extra steel to make his weld stronger. Welding Pitman arms is illegal in most states and competition. He also tack welded a spline shell inside the steering universal joint at the Saginaw PS Box so it would fit/mate to the Saginaw input spline. But he did use 2 tack welds to hold it in place LOL

I am posting this information to reinforce the ABSOLUTE need to tear down and inspect all safety areas on our trucks prior to use. Who know what the person before you did under the shade tree that could cost you your life. What are safety areas: Brakes, Steering and Suspension. If you have not totally inspected the safety areas on your trucks, you really need to do it. Its your life.

Paul
