In about '77 when I put an MU-5 on the front of my 1/2t command car, I needed some extra springs in the front. At that time, most truck junkyard had some parts off the power wagons. So for $25, I bought one front spring pack. I then torched the eyes off of it's main leaf, and took it apart. That gave nme two full length leafs. Next, I shuffled two leafs from it into each side of my own spring packs. $25 plus two new center bolts, and I was back on the road. The winch, PTO and an auto drive shaft cost $150 at the time. Never had to pay a recovery bill again.

Leafs are not rocket science. If you can vary the load on them by 100%, how critical can they be?
