Here's a picture of some measuring devices. I guess in the 50's the government came in and wanted to see how fast the mine ceiling was sinking down. If it was fast enough they wanted to store nuke waste down there. It only dropped so many thousandths of an inch in a year and estimated it would take 500 years for it to drop 1 inch. They didnt store stuff here. I guess they want things to close up around the waste.
We have brine plants around here and they store natural gas in those caverns. In fact 6 years or so ago one of them leaked and followed some underground stuff into our town and blew up buildings and killed people. An ugly unknown mess for several days. Downtown block blew up and burned and the fire department couldnt figure out why they couldnt put the fire out. Come to find out that old building had a well drilled in the basement to pump salt brine up and out for a swimming pool. It was hotel and had a salt water pool for people to swim in to cure sickness's back in the late 1800's early 1900's. The well was unknown in the basement and not capped. The natural gas filled it and BOOM!
