Are you sure that alt. has a built in reg.?
All delco alt. I have ever seen with a built in regulator has a flat plug.
Yours is square. Those were used with external voltage reg. The Alt. you want is a 10SI OR 12SI Delco and must have #1 on the case by the terminals.
