I think the trouble all started when they started calling them "wetlands" rather than "swamps". Nobody likes a swamp. Everybody likes a wetland. Same thing, different name. Sort of like when they changed "dolly varden" to "bull trout" and "woodpecker" to "cavity excavator". All the fancy words basically mean one thing: you can't do anything with your land.
But I think the environmentalists were right about one thing. They shouldn't have dammed up the Green River, or a lot of other rivers. If they hadn't dammed them up, the farm land would never have gotten paved over and we'd still have good farms right next to the big cities
