I know this isnt exactly what you're looking for, but if you buy a cheap baby monitor, and stick the microphone end in the front seat and put the speaker end in the hotel room with you; If anyone opens the door, or smashes the window you'll be able to hear it through the monitor, and scare them off with a crowbar or a tire-iron before they can get their grubby little hands on anythign important.
But pulling the battery is how i do it, its not a great solution, but most theives dont carry around a spare battery with them.
