The problem was that it had fatigued and broke inside of the distributor. Then, when I went to fix it, one of the insulator washers on the bolt that goes through the side of the distributor crumbled. So I made a new, modern style, primary lead: one wire goes from the coil,through the side of the dist and directly to the points. I used polyurethane windshield glue to make the 'grommet' in the distributor wall.

Polyurethane is sooo much better than silicone sealant. Lots harder,tougher, stronger. It's used to glue in windshields as the sole method. It is also available as Vulkem caulk/glue/sealer at some hardware stores.
