Last night, I used a new Dewalt grinder I bought that same day for the first time. What a great grinder, I used it for about 5 seconds, and the grinder disk retaining nut came off, at 10,000 rpm.( my fault, I didn't tighten it enough)When it came off, I didn't see it, but I heard several things in the shop getting hit with it. I probably shoud have taken cover before I became a target. After much swearing that my new grinder now became worthless, I began the task of searching for the part that came off. I enlisted the help of my dear wife, and the rest of the night became a most interesting journey into the bowels of of my shop. We couldn't believe what we were finding while pulling cabinets, benches, overturning boxes and the works while looking for the ellusive part. My shop has not been torn appart like this in 5 years, so here is the list of what was discovered...
about 3 lbs. of grade 8 hardware, assorted
2 bags of fireworks, each in a different location(yes, I have kids)
$6.83 worth of change
a check for $120.00 from a friend that had to re-issue because I lost it
many, many, many beer bottle caps
a complete set of metric wrenches that I swore I lent to somebody, couln't remember who
a new set of brake pads for the wife's Durango that I bought again
a set of tent stakes that I had to re-make
many, many, many more beer bottle caps than before
some new saw-chains for Stihl 026, new in the box
3 carbs for flat head 230
an unopened box of 5/8 heater hose (25 ft.)
a stack of reciepts from VPW
An aluminum wheel chock that would have been real handy about a month ago
and an assortment of CD's (rock, country, jazz, you name it)

After about an hour and a half of this wonderfull recovery effort, I was no longer angry, but thoroughly amused. We set off some of the fireworks (rockets) in celebration of all our good fortune, and added some more bottle caps to the bucket we filled. As for the grinder disk retaining nut, It was under the chair I was sitting in while having a cold one after the search. You can guess who found it, and it wasn't me....what would I do without her....Chris
