South of Hollister on highway 25 until you get to Coalinga Road, turn left, you'll pass a Fire station on the right side, climb a step pass with switch backs, and once your over you'll see Hernandez lake on your left. Keep going until you come to a monument on the left made of bed rocks, a tribute to a young cowboy that lost his life serving in Vietnam. The ranchers in the area had it erected. Make a left cross the creek, and your there dirt road to New Idra. Turn right and follow the road, till it crosses a pass to the New Idra Mine. From there a paved road to Pinocha and back to Hollister. A nice circle drive and you don't need a 4x4 to do it. The commitee should try it out. From Coalinga, 35 miles west into the mountains. It's all mountainous terrain with plenty of roads, mud holes and hills to climb.
