So far no serious fires around here (Wallace), but also no rain since June. There've been storms passing us by in various directions, but nothing here. They just put stage 1 fire restrictions on (no campfires, no smoking, everybody in the woods must carry shovel and bucket, must have fire extinguisher if using a chain saw). Just got back from my cabin to kind of check on things as it's "ATV round up" weekend and there's a percentage of idiots amongst the ATVers. The Forest Service just posted "No Campfires" signs in all the obvious places, including the bridge at the bottom of the Dry Creek road. There's a camp not 100' away from that sign and of course they have a big bonfire going. I'm tempted to just walk up there with a 5 gallon bucket of water, dump it on their fire and walk away without a word said. Probably better not, but it's tempting. As a friend of mine would say, fires and camping go together like alcohol and firearms. Fortunately June was wet and the brush and grass are still green, though the conifers, needles and duff are dry as dust. We were supposed to get rain today, but the clouds came and went without any. Set up a second rain bird sprinkler in the meadow by my cabin. Fortunately I have good water pressure from the creek way up the hill. If it stays dry like this I'm going to wish I had the tranny fixed in that M211 brush truck. That's going to be a pile of work and money and I'd rather do it in the winter. Clutch broke on the cat a couple weeks ago, so that's out of commission too. Hopefully everybody will be smart and we won't get any dry lightning.
