When it dies disconnect the supply wire to the coil and run a temporary new supply wire from the battery to the coil. If the rest of the ign circuit is OK it should start right up. (Make sure you can unhook it to turn the engine off.) Check the wiring behind the dash and see if the ign supply is coming from the headlight switch or the ammeter. It could be the circuit breaker on the headlight switch stopping the supply to the ign, but this will only happen if you have a short in the lighting circuit. The old wiring insulation breaks down easily allowing the wires to ground, so you will have to find and fix that problem, but at least you should be able to get it to run.
