I know you said back roads and all, but using a rope, chain or strap to pull a vehicle on a maintained roadway is illegal in most states and rightfully so! We see it done all the time up here in Alaska and I just cringe at the potential for disaster. I'm guilty of having done it as a kid, but it's just flat dangerous. Remember, it's not just your wisdom your relying on in an emergency, it's the driver of the vehicle your pulling who's reaction time has been shortened to absolutely nothing. Don't do it!
