I will answer your question on the wire harness kits. When I do one of my trucks, I take a pair of side cutting pliers and wack out every piece of wire in the truck. No matter what model truck, the wire is old and 'should' be replaced. I also use a 10 circuit fuse panel that takes ATO type fuses that are available everywhere. Along with the fuse panel, I use relays to carry high current applications like the head lights, heater, horn etc. All new wire of the proper gauge is run and properly terminated for the device it feeds. Then all wire is put in plastic split loom for more protection. Finally all plastic split loom is tie wraped together. The appearance is almost one of a factory job.

As each circuit is wired, its tested with a 12 volt power supply to verify its working properly. When your done, everything works the first time since its all been pre tested during assembly.

Reading the above may sound like a lot of work, it is not. Its very simple and quick and you end up with a custom harness totally suited to your needs. When you buy a wire harness, you may still need to run additional wires for special applications,

Dont think making your own harness is cheap, it is not. Wire is getting very expensive. However it is cheaper than a store bought wire harness.
