My 3/4 ton suburban does ok with an electric brake equiped tandem axle trailer, but the brakes on the trailer are an vital. Stopping that much weight with just the suburban can not be done... not quickly anyway.

I don't know how much weight difference there is between the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton suburbans (I suspect not much) but I know the springs and axles are heavier duty on the 3/4 ton... perhaps brakes and frame as well.

The 3/4 ton truck with a brake equiped trailer gets the job done... I think the 1/2 ton might be pushing it, but if you had good brakes on the trailer and a weight distributing hitch you'd probably be ok... how far do you have to go?
