more M-37 gas gauge woes....

I did check out the gas tank sending unit as David Sherman clearly explained. It seems to be ok.

So I changed the gauge itself with another I had around...its condition unknown however. This gauge read only 1/8 full whereas the other showed just over 1/2 (when is should have showed Full)

The numbers on these gauges are not the same (they look the same). The one in the truck has the number 7728852 plus AC 151756.

The replacement says 8376374 and SW 505-J and 419783

I have a 1972 M-37 parts book, it gives the numbers: Federal Stock number 6680 933 3600 and also MS24544-2 and 96906. The truck however is a 1953 and I don't have a parts list for this year.

1. Are all these 24 V military gas gauges interchangeable?
2. Does anyone have the correct part number for a 1953 gas gauge...or can you read the numbers off the dial on yours?

Thanks
