The range of motion on the new sending unit is identical to the original one. Additionally, the gas gauge/sending unit did work correctly when first installed...so something has gone wrong again. Not much left to check except the gauge itself.
I did notice however that I could change how high the float would go by adjusting the stop (or the lever). I might give this a try just to see what happens.
