attention David Sherman...more on the gas gauge

I tested it as you suggested, and the sending unit seems to work fine and it was properly grounded. The gauge moves freely from E to F as you describe.

I took it out and tested it outside the tank. When the float should indicate full, it actually shows 2/3 on the gauge. (actually the tank is full and it does show 2/3 when installed). When the float is in the approx 1/2 location, it shows 1/2 on the gauge, and when moved to the lowest position it shows empty at the gauge.

You'll note from the picture that this is a different sending unit than was in the truck originally. I could not get the original one to work, maybe the connections/gnd were not good. But when it was removed, it was behaving just like the new one.

So it seems the only thing left is the gas gauge itself. I will try to change that out. Many have told me the guages themselves are never at fault...but??

Thanks for the help so far; the pictures are of the two different sending units.

George
